Why Thin Resin Layers Matter

Pouring resin in over-thick layers may prevent it from hardening fully, especially in the centre. This happens because UV light or the chemical reaction required for curing cannot effectively penetrate or disperse through deep pours. As a result, the surface might appear cured while the deeper resin remains sticky or soft. For example, fast-curing UV resins such as “UV–Creation” Fast Acrylic Resin typically perform best when applied in layers of up to 3 mm thick for reliable, all-through hardening.

How to Apply Resin in Layers

• Only pour the recommended thickness per layer (commonly 3 mm for UV resins and 5–10 mm for standard epoxies unless otherwise specified).
• Allow each layer to cure fully before adding the next. For UV resins, this can be just a few minutes under a suitable lamp, while for epoxies, it may range from several hours to overnight.
• Use a torch or heat gun between layers to help release bubbles and ensure an even finish.
