While it may be tempting to use cooking spray or similar products found in the kitchen, these are not formulated for resin applications. Household sprays can leave behind residues that affect the quality of your cured resin, sometimes impacting clarity, finish, and even adhesion for future castings in the same mould. Sticky residues may be difficult to clean completely, leading to long-term problems with your tools and results.

Benefits of Specialised Resin Release Agents

Purpose-made release agents, such as release wax, are specifically designed for epoxy and other casting resins. These formulas create a thin, reliable barrier on your mould surface and are heat resistant up to 180°C, ensuring your resin will separate cleanly. Release wax is quick to apply—usually drying in just a couple of minutes—and can be used on a wide range of mould materials, including wood, metal, plastic, and cardboard.

Practical Tips for Effortless Demoulding

• Always start with a clean mould before applying release agent.
• Apply a thin, even layer of specialised release wax and allow it to dry as recommended.
• For reusable moulds, such as those made from non-toxic silicone putty, release agents may be unnecessary if the mould surface is naturally non-stick and uncontaminated.
• Avoid overuse of household sprays—they can build up and cause more harm than good.
