Carefully Prepare Your Bath Mould or Framework

Preparing your mould or framework is a crucial foundation for any successful resin bath project. Taking the time to get this step right helps ensure your final piece releases cleanly and retains its intended shape and finish.

Choosing the Right Mould Material

Begin by selecting a mould or framework that’s suitable for resin casting. Many makers opt for high-strength plastics, silicone, or sealed wood for larger projects. The mould’s surface should be clean, dry, and free from debris. Porous materials like raw timber must be sealed thoroughly to prevent leaks and avoid the resin sticking to the structure.

Sealing and Releasing Your Framework

Proper sealing is key, especially if you’re using a timber or composite structure. Apply a specialised silicone paste or sealant to all joints and inner surfaces to make the form leak-proof. For easier demoulding, line the surfaces with a clear release film or a suitable release agent. Using a complete kit, such as the “River-Table” Complete Kit, can simplify these steps thanks to the included silicone paste and release film.

Fine-tuning for Resin Bath Success

Before pouring, check your mould for stability and levelness to avoid uneven thickness. Make sure all fastening points are secure, as the weight of resin can sometimes affect weaker joints. For deep or large projects, plan for the thickness and pour resin in stages when needed – deep pour epoxies like the “Epoxytable 10-Ten” are suitable for single pours up to 10cm, while other formulas work best up to 5cm per layer.

When This Matters

Correct mould setup is essential for anyone creating a resin bath, whether you’re building a striking table or an artistic centrepiece. Careful preparation minimises defects and makes demoulding far less stressful, helping to achieve professional results every time.
