Resin is exceptionally versatile for creative projects, and customising it with pigments and paints opens up endless possibilities for unique designs. However, the types of colourants and when to add them depend on the resin system you choose.
Choosing Colourants: What Works with Which Resin?
For UV resin, such as the UV–Creation Fast Acrylic Resin, you can directly mix in dry pigments or glitter to customise colour and add dazzling effects. Avoid alcohol inks with UV resins—they can prevent proper curing. Mineral-based resins like “NatuResin” are best coloured after curing, using acrylic or other craft paints. Polyurethane resins such as “IWhite” allow tinting in the liquid phase with suitable pigments or can be painted once cured for fine detail and vibrant results.

Practical Techniques for Customising Resin
- UV Resin: Blend a small amount of dry pigment or glitter into the resin before exposing to UV light for curing. Mix thoroughly to distribute the colour evenly.
- Mineral Resin: Allow to cure fully, then decorate with layers of acrylic paint for bold statements or subtle accents.
- Polyurethane Resin: Add compatible pigment when mixing the two components, or let it set and paint the surface to achieve the desired finish.
When Customisation Counts Most
Adding colour and effects is especially useful when making jewellery, miniature models, or decorative homewares where a bespoke touch makes each piece stand out.
