← Back to How to calculate how much epoxy resin is needed for a table?

Once you know the volume of epoxy resin needed for your project, converting that volume into the correct weight is the next essential step before purchase or mixing. This guide covers the process for accurate table casting and other applications.
Understanding Resin Density
Most epoxy resins used for tables have a density very close to 1g/cm³. This means that 1 litre of resin approximately weighs 1kg, making the conversion straightforward for most projects. However, always check your resin’s technical data sheet to confirm, especially if precision is crucial or if you’re working with a specialty formula.
How to Convert Volume to Weight
- Step 1: Calculate the required volume in litres or cubic centimetres. For example, if your table mould needs 5 litres of resin, start with this figure.
- Step 2: Multiply the volume (in litres) by the density (typically 1kg per litre for standard resins).
- Step 3: The result is the total weight of epoxy resin required. For most table projects, every litre translates to about 1kg of resin.
If your chosen resin’s data sheet lists a different density (for example, 1.08g/cm³), simply multiply the number of litres by that value for greater accuracy.
Practical Buying Guide
Epoxy resins are usually sold by weight. Once you have your total kilograms needed, select resin kits accordingly, allowing a small margin for spills and mixing errors. For larger table projects up to 5cm thick, EpoxyTable 5-Five is a popular choice; for deeper pours (up to 10cm), consider “Epoxytable 10-Ten”. Thinner projects or small crafts may be best matched with “Trasparente” resin, suitable for layers up to 2cm.
When Density Matters Most
Precision is vital for high-value or large resin projects, especially when working at scale or with unique resins. Checking the exact density in the product datasheet helps ensure you buy and mix just the right amount, reducing waste and ensuring quality results.
