Assessing and Preparing the Table Surface
Begin by identifying areas where the resin has formed high spots or is textured unevenly. Ensure the resin has fully cured before proceeding—this avoids smearing or gumming up the surface while sanding. Clean the tabletop with a soft cloth to remove dust and debris before any corrective work.
Sanding High Spots for an Even Base
Use fine to medium grit sandpaper (such as 360 or 500 grit, often included in resin table kits) to gently sand down any high or raised spots on the cured resin. Work gradually and keep the motion circular or with the grain to avoid creating noticeable scratches. For best results, a polishing kit like the one found in the “River-Table” Complete Kit provides multiple grits and polishing pads suitable for resin surfaces. Wipe away dust with a damp cloth after sanding.
Applying a Self-Levelling Top Coat
After levelling the surface, mix a fresh batch of self-levelling epoxy resin according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Pour a thin, even layer over the table, allowing the resin to flow naturally and fill in any low spots for a uniform surface. Work in a dust-free, well-ventilated environment, and cover the project while it cures to protect from debris.
- For very thin layers (up to 2cm), a clear resin such as “Trasparente” Epoxy is ideal.
