Should I Order Extra Resin for Contingency?

When planning a resin table project, it’s wise to consider not just the calculated amount, but also a safety margin. Factoring in some extra resin can save frustration later on.

Why Order Extra Resin?

Even with the most precise measurements, real-world results can differ. Timber surfaces may soak up more resin than expected, and minor spillages or miscalculations are common, particularly when working with large or deep pour projects. To ensure your surface gets a seamless coat and to avoid running out mid-pour, an additional allowance is strongly recommended.

How Much Extra Should You Buy?

A practical approach is to add around 10% to your calculated resin volume. For example, if you’ve worked out that your table project needs 5kg of epoxy, order at least 5.5kg in total. This provides a buffer to cover unforeseen events without being wasteful.

If you’re using a kit such as the River-Table Complete Kit, check the guidance for the included resin quantity and still consider a little extra if your table is on the larger side.

When This Matters

  • When working with absorbent woods that can draw in resin unpredictably
  • Large or thick pours, as rematching resin batches later may show a seam
  • First-time or complex table projects where experience is developing
