Applying a smooth, durable coating to your 3D printed model parts is straightforward with the right epoxy resin. 3D Finish resin is purpose-designed to enhance detail, add mechanical strength, and provide a glossy finish when used correctly.
Essential Preparation
Before you begin, ensure your model surface is well prepared. The area should be dry, dust-free, and slightly sanded to allow optimal adhesion. Choose a temperature-controlled space—avoid working in high humidity or cold conditions, as these can affect the resin’s curing and final quality.
Mixing the 3D Finish Resin
Measure Component A and Component B by weight using an accurate scale, applying a ratio of 100 parts A to 50 parts B. Pour both components into a mixing container and stir thoroughly for 2 minutes, making sure to scrape the sides and bottom. Proper blending is key to a bubble-free, reliable finish. Only mix what you can apply immediately, as the resin will begin to cure once blended.
Application Techniques and Tips
Using a soft brush or spreader, apply an even layer of the mixed resin to your prepared model surface. Spread gently to cover the part without flooding details—this product is designed to be non-drip and detail-preserving. Allow the coated part to cure undisturbed at around 20°C; 3D Finish resin typically cures in approximately 4 hours under these optimal conditions. The set surface can be sanded or painted for a custom finish if desired.
For best results on PLA, ABS, or LAYWOOD printed parts, consider using the dedicated 3D Finish epoxy resin, which is formulated for strong adhesion and gloss.
