When restoring marble resin statues, it’s tempting to try and press broken sections together for a snug fit. However, forcing joined sections can cause unseen damage and lead to repair failures over time.
Why Forcing Sections Is a Mistake
Applying excessive force when joining broken statue pieces can cause cracks to spread or hidden stress points to develop. Marble resin statues, though strong, can be brittle, and forced alignment may strip away fine edges, leaving an improper bond. It can also squeeze out too much adhesive, preventing full coverage and weakening the repair.
The Correct Method for Joining Statue Parts
To achieve a lasting, seamless restoration, first check that broken surfaces are dust-free and dry. Apply a thin, even layer of epoxy mastic or fast-setting epoxy glue—such as Magelstick Epoxy Mastic—to both sides. Gently hold the pieces in place without forcing them together; allow the adhesive’s natural suction and curing process to form a secure bond. Use light clamping where needed, ensuring that excess glue is not pressed out.
When This Matters Most
Gentle handling is especially crucial for detailed, fragile, or thin sections of statues. Overly tight joining can cause irreparable surface loss or, worse, fresh fractures that are difficult to disguise, particularly in visible or load-bearing areas.
