How Do I Stop Bubbles in Table Resin?

Nothing spoils the flawless look of an amber resin table more than trapped air bubbles. Fortunately, with a little know-how and care, you can keep your resin finishes beautifully clear.

Mix Slowly for Bubble-Free Resin

The key to minimising bubbles starts right at the mixing stage. Stir your resin and hardener gently but thoroughly, avoiding rapid or vigorous motion which drags air into the mixture. Use a flat mixing stick and scrape the sides and bottom of your container to incorporate all material evenly. If working with kits like the River-Table Complete Kit, follow the included mixing instructions for the best results.

Pour in Thin Layers and Use Heat Tools

Pour your resin in shallow layers, ideally not more than a couple of centimetres thick at a time, to allow trapped bubbles to rise and escape quickly. After pouring, lightly pass a heat gun or torch across the surface. The gentle heat helps break surface tension, causing bubbles to pop before the resin starts to set. Hold the tool a safe distance from the resin to avoid overheating.

When This Matters Most

Preventing bubbles is especially crucial if you’re working with clear or lightly tinted amber resins. Thicker pours—such as with EpoxyTable 5-Five—benefit the most from careful mixing, staged pouring, and the use of heat tools because bubbles are harder to remove from deep resin sections.
