← Back to How to make a resin sphere?

Finding your resin sphere stuck in its mould can be frustrating, but rushing or using force can ruin your hard work and the mould itself. Here’s how to safely approach this common issue and avoid similar problems in your next project.
Gentle Steps for Removing a Stuck Sphere
Avoid the temptation to pry or force the sphere out, as this may damage both your creation and the silicone mould. First, check whether the resin is fully cured—resin left too short a time in the mould can be tacky and difficult to remove. If it feels flexible or slightly soft, allow extra curing time. Once you’re certain the resin is set, gently flex the mould all around to release the edges of the sphere. Gradually invert and ease out the casting without stretching or tearing the silicone.
Tips to Prevent Sticking in the Future
Prevention is the best approach for future projects. Apply a purpose-made mould release spray to the interior of the mould before pouring your resin. This creates a thin barrier, making it much easier to demould once set. Also, aim to remove the finished sphere no later than 12 hours after pouring, as prolonged contact can increase the likelihood of the resin adhering to silicone surfaces. For best results, use a mould specifically designed for resin casting, like the “3 Sphere” – Silicone Mould for Jewellery and Crafts.
When This Matters Most
- If you’re making multiple spheres for gifts or decorations, quick and safe demoulding helps keep your production line moving.
- Damaging a quality mould can be expensive—taking care reduces waste and extends the mould’s life.
