Why Use Resin Permeable Systems on Concrete?
Concrete is a common sub-base for driveways, patios, and paths due to its strength and stability. Applying a resin-bound permeable surface over concrete allows you to create a visually attractive finish with excellent water drainage, while making the most of your current infrastructure. The concrete base adds durability and supports long-term performance.
Preparing Your Concrete Surface
Before adding a resin-bound finish, it’s important to seal and protect the concrete base to manage moisture and maximise adhesion. An easy approach is to use a dedicated primer such as Resinstone – One-Component Methacrylic Resin. This helps prevent moisture entering from below, supports even resin application, and creates the best foundation for the system. Ensure the surface is clean and free from loose debris or oils prior to priming.
Choosing the Right Resin and Aggregate System
When installing a permeable resin surface on a primed concrete base, select a resin binder specifically designed for permeability. For a natural look, combine your binder with pre-washed pebbles or decorative stone in your preferred colours. Both epoxy and polyurethane binders (such as those in the Trasparente Epoxy Binder or Polirock Polyurethane Binder) work well depending on stone type, finish, and area size. Mix the aggregates and binder thoroughly before applying evenly over the concrete.
