← Back to Which product should I choose for slip resistant permeable surfaces?

Methacrylic resin offers specialised protection for concrete surfaces, but is it always the right choice for permeable flooring? The answer depends on your floor type and intended surface performance.
When Methacrylic Resin Works Best
Products like Resinstone are especially useful for sealing and safeguarding concrete or stamped floors. Methacrylic resin deeply penetrates porous substrates, helping to prevent moisture ingress, block dust, and provide a robust surface suited to both outdoor and indoor traffic. This makes it a strong option where surface hardening and light waterproofing are priorities, such as driveways, patios or garages with concrete finishes.
Choosing the Right Binder or Sealer for Loose Stone Installations
Methacrylic resin is not suitable for binding loose aggregates or gravel. For these permeable surfaces, a dedicated resin binder—like Polirock Polyurethane Binder—should be used to ensure the stones are set firmly in place while maintaining permeability and slip resistance. Select your binder based on the type of aggregate (for example, choose clear, non-yellowing polyurethane for white stones, or low-yellowing epoxy for coloured stones), ensuring lasting appearance and performance under daily use.
Priming: Preparing the Substrate
For best results, especially on absorbent or older substrates, it’s recommended to prime the surface before applying either a methacrylic resin or a pebble binder. Primers such as Epoxyprimer Universal improve adhesion, support uniform resin coverage, and promote overall durability. This is particularly important where the substrate may be dusty, weak or unevenly absorbent.
When This Matters
Selecting the right resin and system is key when safety underfoot, effective drainage, or long-term protection is important—such as on outdoor paths, communal surfaces, or areas exposed to changing UK weather conditions.
