Sticky epoxy resin after curing can be disappointing, especially if you were expecting a smooth, glassy finish. This guide explains the main reasons behind sticky results and what you can do to solve — and avoid — this problem in future resin projects.

What Causes Sticky Resin?

Sticky or tacky resin is most often the result of incorrect mixing ratios or insufficient mixing. Epoxy resin typically requires exact proportions of resin and hardener, which can vary by brand. Deviations in ratio or incomplete stirring leave areas that fail to cure properly, resulting in a soft or sticky surface. Temperature and humidity in your workspace may also play a role, but mixing accuracy is the most common culprit.

Steps to Fix and Prevent Sticky Results

• Check mixing ratios: Always use the precise ratio recommended by your resin manufacturer. Some resins, like “One-2-One” Epoxy Resin, are designed for a straightforward 1:1 volume mix.
• Mix thoroughly: Stir continuously for the full time suggested in product instructions, scraping the sides and bottom of your container to combine the resin and hardener evenly.
