How Do You Prevent Bubbles in Resin?

Achieving a glass-clear finish is a common goal when crafting with resin, especially for items like keychains. Bubbles can spoil a smooth surface, so it’s important to know how to avoid and remove them during your project.

Preparing Your Resin for Bubble-Free Results

Start by ensuring your workspace and moulds are dust-free and at room temperature. Mix your resin and hardener gently, following the recommended ratios—kits like the “Evershine Collection” use a straightforward 1:1 formula which reduces mistakes caused by improper mixing. Stir slowly to minimise air incorporation and allow the mixture to rest briefly so bubbles can rise naturally.

Pouring and Releasing Air Bubbles

Pour the resin mixture slowly into your mould. Avoid pouring from a height, as this can trap additional air. Once filled, gently tap or flex the mould to help any trapped bubbles move to the surface. Small bubbles near the surface often burst on their own, but for stubborn ones, lightly pass a heat gun or a straw across the surface to encourage them to break before the resin cures.

When Bubble Prevention Matters Most

  • If you’re making gifts or products to sell, a clear, bubble-free finish looks more professional.
  • Bubbles are especially noticeable in transparent designs common with personalised resin keychains.
  • Fine details, such as dried flowers or glitter, can trap air—extra care is needed here.
