If you’re making a mould for resin, knowing how long your silicone rubber takes to cure is essential. This affects both your project timeline and final results.
Typical Curing Times for Silicone Rubber
Most platinum-based liquid silicone rubbers, such as Pure Mould, cure in approximately 3–8 hours at room temperature. Actual timing depends on factors like ambient temperature, humidity, and precise mixing ratios. Cooler environments may extend the curing period, while warmer conditions can speed it up slightly.
How to Ensure a Successful Cure
Following the product’s specific instructions is always best for reliable results. Use a clean, dry workspace and carefully measure both components—most silicones cure best with an easy 1:1 ratio by weight or volume. Mix thoroughly to avoid uncured spots. Once poured, leave the mould undisturbed until fully set. Removing the mould too early can lead to warping or surface defects.
- Keep the work area at a stable temperature (ideally around 20–25°C).
- Allow ventilation to minimise fumes, even with odourless products.
- Check that your casting surface is free of moisture and dust.
When Quick Curing Matters
Fast-curing silicones like “Pure Mould” are ideal when you need efficient turnaround—whether for small-batch production, fast prototyping, or tight deadlines. Waiting the full 3–8 hours may seem long if you’re used to instant results, but the speed and detail make these rubbers excellent for resin, plaster, or even candle moulds.
