Creating resin insect art is highly rewarding, but air bubbles can spoil the clear look you’re aiming for. By preparing both your subject and your resin carefully, you can minimise bubbles and achieve a professional, glass-like finish.

Prepare Your Insects and Workspace

Before you start, ensure that the insects are completely dry. Any moisture can produce bubbles or interfere with resin curing. Dry specimens in a warm, dry space for several days. Consider placing them in a well-ventilated container with a desiccant for best results. Make sure your workspace is dust-free and at a stable temperature, as sudden changes can contribute to bubble formation.

Layering and Pouring Techniques

To help avoid bubbles, pour your resin in thin layers rather than all at once. Start with a small base layer; once this becomes tacky, position your insect using tweezers. Slowly pour additional resin to submerge the specimen, letting each layer level out for a moment. Pouring slowly reduces the chance of trapping air around delicate features.
