← Back to How to create a resin floor?

Preparing the base layer is one of the most crucial steps in creating a long-lasting resin floor. A common mistake is using too much water when cleaning the substrate prior to primer or resin application, which can affect the end result.
Why Avoid Excess Water?
While it’s important to remove dust and debris, saturating the substrate with water can delay evaporation and trap moisture within the base material. This trapped water may interfere with the bonding of primers and resin layers, undermining adhesion and potentially causing defects such as bubbling or poor curing.
Best Practices for Substrate Cleaning
Instead of hosing down the floor, choose methods like sweeping, vacuuming, or using a slightly damp mop to collect fine particles. If a deeper clean is necessary, allow the substrate to dry thoroughly—ideally overnight or until it is visibly dry to the touch—before beginning any primer or resin application. For surfaces like concrete, extra moisture can remain below the surface, so patience is key. Applying a suitable primer like Epoxyprimer on a dry base will give your floor the best chance at a durable, smooth finish.
When Does This Matter Most?
Pay extra attention during damp or humid weather. Porous surfaces, such as concrete or screed, are particularly sensitive to excess water. Ensuring a dry foundation is essential for both decorative home projects and high-traffic commercial floors.
