Can I Tint or Colour Resin Glue?

Tinting resin glue is a popular technique for achieving custom finishes, discreet repairs, or creative craft results. The process is simple, but making the right choice of glue and pigment ensures ideal results every time.

How to Tint Resin Glue

Most two-component epoxy glues, such as the FixExpress, can be tinted before application. To colour your adhesive, mix the resin and hardener as recommended (usually a 1:1 ratio), then add a compatible dry pigment, dye, or mica powder. Stirr well until you reach a uniform colour, then apply as usual. Avoid overloading with pigment as this could affect the glue’s strength or curing speed.

Choosing Compatible Colourants

For most epoxy resin glues, dry pigments, specially formulated resin dyes, or mica powders are ideal. Alcohol-based inks and water-based dyes are generally not recommended, particularly for UV resins such as UV–Creation, as they may interfere with proper curing. Always test a small amount if using a new colourant with your chosen adhesive.

  • Use dry pigments for rich, opaque shades
  • Mica powders add subtle shimmer or pearly effects
  • Clear or transparent adhesives are best if you want vibrant colour results

When This Matters

Tinting resin glue is valuable in creative projects, jewellery repairs, or any work where the bond will be visible. It’s also ideal for hiding repair lines on coloured surfaces or blending glue into decorative crafts for a flawless result.
