Keeping silicone moulds in excellent condition is essential for successful resin casting and prolonging the life of your moulds. Here’s how to clean them gently after each project to maintain their flexibility and detail.
Step-by-Step Cleaning Method
After demoulding your resin piece, rinse the silicone mould with warm water straight away. Add a small amount of mild soap and use your fingertips to softly work away any residue. Never use harsh solvents or abrasive cleaning pads, as these can degrade the silicone’s surface and shorten its lifespan. Once clean, rinse away all soap thoroughly.
Drying and Storing Silicone Moulds
Let your mould air dry fully, ideally by placing it upside down on a clean surface. Avoid towel drying, which may leave fibres behind or scratch fine details. Once fully dry, store moulds flat, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat to prevent distortion. If space allows, keep moulds separate to avoid creasing or warping.
When Gentle Cleaning Matters Most
Caring for silicone moulds is especially important when working with detailed designs or reusable favourites, like the Silicone Hexagons Mould. Careful cleaning preserves sharp edges and maintains the non-stick surface for smooth, repeat demoulding.
