← Back to How to decorate a table with resin

Bubbles can spoil the smooth, glass-like finish that makes resin tables so striking. With a few key techniques, you can achieve a clear, professional result every time you pour.
Seal the Wood and Prepare Thoroughly
Wood is naturally porous, and air trapped within it can escape as bubbles into your resin layer. Before your main pour, apply a thin coat of resin or a dedicated sealer to the wood surfaces. Allow this layer to cure fully—it locks in trapped air and stops it from bubbling up later. Carefully seal all edges and knots, as these are common trouble spots.
Mix Slowly and Pour with Care
Vigorous or careless mixing is one of the main causes of bubbles. Stir your resin and hardener together slowly, scraping the sides and bottom of your mixing container to be thorough, but avoid whipping air in. Once mixed, let the blend rest for a couple of minutes to allow bubbles to rise to the surface before pouring. Pour slowly and steadily to reduce the chances of introducing fresh bubbles.
Use Gentle Heat to Remove Surface Bubbles
After pouring, any small bubbles that remain will typically float to the surface. Use a heat gun or a torch, held at a safe distance, to pass over the resin surface in slow, controlled movements. The heat encourages bubbles to burst without damaging the piece. Take care not to overheat one area or linger too long, as this can affect the resin’s clarity or cause defects.

When This Matters Most
Taking extra steps to prevent bubbles is especially crucial if you want a crystal-clear finish or are including decorative items like stones or pigment. Attention to sealing, mixing, and finishing helps showcase your design without visual distractions.
