Essential Steps for Layering Objects in Resin
To create a layered resin piece, start by pouring a thin base layer of resin and allow it to begin setting. Once it reaches a gel-like state (partially cured and no longer too runny), gently position your first objects. Pour the next layer of resin, taking care to avoid disturbing placed items, and repeat the process for additional objects and layers. Allow each layer to reach partial set before proceeding; this helps maintain sharp layers and prevents objects from floating or sinking unexpectedly.
- Avoid pouring layers thicker than your resin’s recommended depth: for example, “Trasparente” epoxy resin is suitable for up to 2cm layers.
- Work on a level surface for even curing.
- Cover your piece while curing to keep dust out.
Choosing the Right Resin for Layering
For successful layering, select a resin that suits your project’s total thickness and fits each layer’s depth. For castings up to 1.5cm per layer, “Icrystal” resin can be a good choice, while “Trasparente” is ideal for up to 2cm. If your design requires particularly deep layers or thicker pieces (up to 5cm at a time), opt for a deep pour resin like “EpoxyTable 5-Five”, which is engineered to resist overheating and remain clear in larger pours.
