Mixing Techniques to Reduce Bubbles

One of the most effective ways to prevent bubbles is to mix your resin or silicone very slowly and thoroughly. Rapid or aggressive stirring can introduce excess air into the mixture, which becomes trapped as bubbles. Aim for a gentle folding motion, scraping the sides and bottom of your mixing container to ensure an even blend without whipping in air. Using products with a longer working time, such as “I–Gum” Silicone Putty, can also make it easier to mix with care.

Tools and Methods for Bubble Removal

For high-detail or deep pours, a pressure pot is highly recommended. This equipment compresses and reduces air bubbles present in the mixture before it cures, leading to much smoother results. If a pressure pot isn’t available, you can try gently tapping or vibrating the mould after pouring to encourage bubbles to rise and escape. Pouring in thin layers rather than a single thick pour can also help minimise bubble entrapment.

Bubbles are particularly challenging when casting pieces with fine details, transparent finishes, or deep pours—such as river tables or intricate jewellery. In these cases, taking extra steps to remove bubbles ensures both structural integrity and visual clarity.
