Step 1: Plan Hook Placement and Prepare Your Pendant

Before adding a hook, decide exactly where you want your pendant to hang from. Typically, this is the top centre for a balanced look, but creative off-centre placement can add style. Mark this spot lightly with a pencil or masking tape if needed.

Ensure your resin pendant is fully cured and free from tackiness, as inserting hooks into soft resin can lead to weak results. If edges are sharp or rough, smooth gently with fine sandpaper.

Step 3: Attach the Hook or Finding

Once your pilot hole is ready or your screw fastener is set, use jewellery pliers to open the loop of a Stainless Steel Earring Hook or a jump ring (often included in starter sets). Slide the ring or hook through the pendant hole or the eye of your screw fastener, then secure by gently closing the loop with your pliers.

Take care not to overtighten metal findings, as excessive pressure may damage the resin around the hole. If using open metal bezels, attach findings to the frame’s designated suspension point.

Tips and Common Mistakes

• Secure your hook before the resin fully cures if you want a permanent, integrated attachment; after curing, only drill if the pendant is thick enough.
• Use the right drill bit size – too large can weaken the pendant, while too small makes attachment difficult.
• Avoid overtightening screw fasteners or hooks to prevent cracking delicate edges.
• Test the hook’s strength after installation by lightly tugging; a good fit should feel firm and secure.

If you make a mistake, holes can be filled with clear resin and re-drilled after curing. Always plan your attachment method before beginning your design for best results.
