← Back to How do you apply resin to a floor?

When working with resin flooring products, ensuring good ventilation in enclosed areas is essential for comfort and for achieving the best application results. Even formulations marketed as low-odour or water-based benefit from sufficient airflow during use.
Why Ventilation Is Important
Resin products, including primers and binders, can emit odours and, in some cases, mild vapours during mixing, application and curing. Proper ventilation prevents the build-up of these vapours, helping to create a safer and more pleasant work environment. It also supports optimal curing and adhesion, particularly when using products like the Epoxyprimer which are suited for indoor floors, concrete, tiles and timber.
Practical Ventilation Techniques
- Open Doors and Windows: If possible, keep multiple access points open to promote cross-breeze and faster air change.
- Use Portable Fans: Place fans safely to extract air toward windows or vents. Avoid aiming airflow directly at freshly applied resin, as this may disturb the surface finish.
- Intermittent Breaks: If the area is very confined, plan for short work sessions with breaks to allow air to refresh and for you to step outside.
- Check Product Guidance: Some systems, such as water-based primers, are formulated to be odourless but still benefit from good air circulation during their application and initial cure phase.
When Ventilation Matters Most
Ventilation is especially critical when working in basements, utility rooms, or any space lacking natural airflow. It is also important during warmer weather when solvents may evaporate more quickly, or in cases where multiple resin layers or products are being applied in succession. Adequate airflow contributes to the strength and appearance of your finished resin floor.
