Thorough cleaning and correct substrate preparation dramatically impact the longevity of any epoxy system. Pay extra attention to removing dust and ensuring the floor is completely dry before priming for best results.

Step 1: Prepare and Clean the Surface

Start by ensuring your chosen substrate is completely clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or grease. Remove any debris, loose materials, or residues using a vacuum or broom. If your floor has existing coatings or sealers, abrade these mechanically for optimal primer penetration. For porous or highly absorbent surfaces, a preliminary damp mop can help stabilise dust, but avoid saturating the area. Edges and trims can be masked off to protect adjoining areas from accidental application.

Step 3: Apply the Primer Evenly

Pour the mixed primer onto the surface in controlled sections. Using a Resin & Paint Application Roller (select either short-pile for detail or large for broader areas), spread the product uniformly in smooth, overlapping strokes. Work systematically from one end of the room to the other, maintaining a wet edge to avoid lap marks. The primer should be applied thinly and evenly, with coverage rate adjusted to surface porosity (typically 100–300 g/m²).

For edges and tight spots, a brush may be used to ensure full coverage. Avoid excessive build-up or overworking, which can hinder adhesion.

Tips, Troubleshooting, and Common Mistakes

Always wear gloves and ensure good ventilation during application. Never skip thorough surface cleaning, as stains or grease can cause future delamination. Do not rush mixing or apply in thick, uneven layers—these are common errors that lead to poor adhesion or extended curing. If the primer forms glossy patches, it may be over-applied; sand lightly once cured before any resin overlay. Balancing working speed with careful coverage results in a strong foundation for your finishing coats.

Achieving Consistent Primer Application

Uniform spreading using the right roller or brush allows the epoxy primer to penetrate fully and bond with the substrate. Always monitor coverage to avoid pooling or streaks.
