Artistic and decorative creations made with epoxy resin are fascinating, but nothing can ruin them more quickly than annoying air bubbles trapped in the resin itself. Fortunately, there are effective methods to prevent and eliminate these bubbles, ensuring flawless results. In this article, we will explore the key strategies to avoid epoxy bubbles, ensuring that your creations are always defect-free.
Mixing
One of the basic ways to avoid the formation of microbubbles is the mixing process. Too often, bubbles form due to inadequate mixing It is crucial to mix the resin carefully and carefully to minimize the risk of air bubbles.
The secret lies in mixing the resin from the bottom up, rather than adopting simple rotational movements. This helps to incorporate air evenly and prevent the accumulation of bubbles. Choosing a slow, deliberate movement while stirring can be the difference between a flawless result and one full of annoying bubbles.
Ideal temperature for bubble-free Epoxy Resin creativity
The temperature of the environment in which you work with epoxy resin is another crucial factor in avoiding the formation of bubbles. A temperature above 20 degrees centigrade can increase the viscosity of the resin, making it easier to trap air bubbles during the mixing process. Keeping the environment at a temperature slightly below 20 degrees can greatly help prevent it.
Resin`s type and tools for working with Epoxies
Choosing the right resin`s type can make all the difference in the bubble-free creation process. Opting for less viscous resins, such as “Transparent” from ResinPro, can greatly decrease the appearance of bubbles. These fluid resins mix more easily and allow air to disperse evenly, reducing the risk of bubbles.
Using of special tools, such as the anti-bubble mixer which specially designed for resin mixing can help to incorporate air evenly during the mixing process. In addition, using a tool to gently remove air bubbles trapped on the resin surface can further improve the quality of your creations.
In case you work with high viscosity resins, like our “Art-Pro Deluxe“, the best way to get bubble-free art work is applying resin by thin layers, helping by a heat-gun each time applying new level.
Working with large amounts of resin, we would suggest to try our slow epoxy resin for deep pouring – “Epoxytable-Five“. Because of long working time, all the bubbles have a chance to escape your project, before the catalysis is done. It is worth mentioning the importance of insulating the wooden surface before the main resin casting, to prevent appearing air at the late stages of the catalysis. The best way to do that – to apply our fast epoxy resin “Transparent” by thin layer and wait 6-8h before main pouring.

In summary, avoiding bubbles in epoxy resin requires attention to detail, from the correct mixing technique, to choosing the right temperature and the right tools. With a careful approach and an in-depth understanding of strategies to avoid bubbles, you will be able to create attention-grabbing resin artwork without any unwanted flaws.
Epoxy resin has become a popular material for creative projects due to its versatility and ability to create beautiful and durable pieces such as paintings, stands, trays, jewelry, and other decor. However, besides applying resin to surfaces and pouring it into silicone moulds, there is another interesting way to work with it, resulting in vases and sculptures of unusual shapes. Looking at them, you might wonder, how is it possible to bend epoxy resin when it hardens into a rigid plastic state? Let’s delve into it!
Materials
First and foremost, let’s start with the materials and tools.
Choose epoxy resin suitable for flat mould castings (coasters and trays) with a sufficiently long curing time. We recommend our medium-viscosity Art Pro resin. The technique described in this article is based on the properties of this very resin.
Select options
This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product page
In addition to resin, you will need silicone moulds for coasters and trays. Keep in mind that the vases size will be significantly smaller after bending, so choose the widest mould you can find.
To create flat moulds of any shape that comes to mind, we recommend using our IGUM silicone paste for moulds: the paste itself is used to create a silicone “rim” that is applied to plexiglass, a dense film (such as a textbook cover), or our self-adhesive Shiny Shield film:
Step-by-Step Technique
1.Mix epoxy resin, optionally coluoring it in several different colours, and pour it into a wide tray mould. To achieve a beautiful geode effect, you can alternate resin of different colours with white and transparent resin. For instance, pour a bit of white resin along the edges and in the center, then pour a bit of transparent resin in the center of mould directly on top of the white resin. Alternate colours with transparent resin until your mould is filled. Allow the resin to cure.
2. Approximately 10-12 hours after pouring, carefully check the stateof the resin (through the mould, without touching the resin itself). It shouldn’t be liquid or jelly-like; it should be slightly hardened but still soft and flexible. This is the ideal moment to bend the casting. Carefully, while wearing gloves, remove the casting from the mould.
3. Take a bowl or basin (preferably metal) and gently press the casting into it to shape it. Be careful at this stage and don’t press too hard to avoid cracking the casting! Additionally, if you want uneven bends, you can take a jar with a lid or any similar object, wrap it in polyethylene film or bag, and gently “cover” the object with the casting, creating bends carefully.
4. Leave the casting in the bowl/on the jar for 24-36 hours to allow the resin to fully harden and gain strength.
Conclusion
Shaping vases and sculptures from semi-hardened epoxy resin is an engaging way to create unique decorations. But don’t forget about safety precautions; resin is harmless only after complete curing. Therefore, even when working with semi-hardened resin, wear a mask/respirator, gloves, and work in a well-ventilated area. Creativity is good for the soul, but don’t forget about your physical health ❤️
Epoxy resin is a versatile and durable material used for a variety of applications, from industrial to artistic. However, one common problem that arises with epoxy resin is that it can turn yellow over time, especially after it has hardened. Moreover, all classic epoxy resins are subject to yellowing, both cheap and expensive. In this article, we will explore why hardened epoxy resin turns yellow and what can be done to prevent it.
Sunlight
Exposure to UV light is one of the main reasons why hardened epoxy resin turns yellow. UV light can break down the chemical bonds in the epoxy, leading to discolouration. This is especially true for epoxy resin that is exposed to sunlight, which contains a significant amount of UV radiation.
To prevent epoxy resin from turning yellow due to UV exposure, producers must have strong UV filters in their products. This will help to protect the epoxy resin from the influence of sunlight and other sources of UV radiation.
Epoxy resin by Resin Pro has a powerful protection against sunlight, therefore, if you try to store castings out of sunlight, they will not change colour after 5 or more years!
Internal tests carried out by Resin Pro experts back in 2018 showed that the first signs of yellowing of our epoxy resin appear after 60 months when stored indoors and 12 months when stored outdoors. Such a significant difference in the susceptibility of the resin to yellowing between the two types of storage lies in the fact that when stored indoors, the resin is exposed to a minimum of external factors, the main of which is direct sunlight, and storage “outdoors” means that the resin and castings from it are under constant exposure to direct sunlight, which is possible only in laboratory conditions.
And although 5 years have passed since 2018, the UV resistance of our resin has remained the same – “Made in Italy” says a lot about Resin Pro! 🙂
Relatively recently, in 2022, another yellowing test was carried out by Resin Pro team, which confirmed this quality. See results in this report: UV camera test.

Based on the tests, we can formulate the main rule for protecting the resin from turning yellow:
Keeping epoxy resin containers and hardened castings away from sunlight and UV radiation is the best way to protect them from yellowing.
Other reasons
Aside from UV exposure, there are other reasons why epoxy resin can turn yellow. One of these reasons is heat. High temperatures can cause the epoxy resin to break down and discolour. For this reason, it is important to avoid exposing epoxy resin to excessive heat.
You may notice that if you sometimes accidentally overheat the resin in one place with a gas heat gun, this place will turn very yellow. Be careful when removing air bubbles on the surface of the epoxy with heat sources!
Another reason why epoxy resin can turn yellow is exposure to oxygen. When epoxy resin is exposed to oxygen, it can oxidize, leading to discolouration. This is why it is important to store epoxy resin in airtight containers and to avoid exposing it to the air for extended periods of time.
Finally, the use of an improper hardener or too much hardener can also lead to yellowing of the epoxy resin. This is because the hardener can react with the epoxy in an uncontrolled way, causing it to discolour. But Resin Pro supply ready made kits which contain a resin and hardener suitable for this very resin. In no case should you use different hardeners for Resin Pro resins – everything is already ready for use and you do not need to look for an additional hardener!
Also follow the mixing ratios indicated on the resin containers by Resin Pro – they are unique to each type of resin, and failure to follow them will result in your resin simply not curing properly.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hardened epoxy resin can turn yellow for several reasons, including exposure to UV light, heat, oxygen, and the use of an improper hardener. To prevent yellowing, producers must have strong UV filters in their products, and users must take care to avoid exposing the epoxy resin to direct sunlight, excessive heat, oxygen, and other sources of discolouration. By following these guidelines, it is possible to keep epoxy resin looking clear and bright for years to come.

Epoxy resin
The Multipurpose Epoxy Resins are composed of 2 components to be mixed together and immediately after they must be used. They harden on their own after a few hours. The resin is transparent and can be coloured as desired, guaranteeing a glossy and resistant surface. These resins are undoubtedly the most used and versatile.
Advantages:✅Versatile ✅ Transparent ✅ Resistant ✅Stable over time
Disadvantages: ✖️ Dose with scales ✖️ It needs at least 24h to harden
👉 Main Applications: Jewellery, silicone moulds, small castings (up to 2cm thick), stabilisation and filling of wood and other materials, model making
UV resins are single-component (so they don’t need to be mixed before applying them) but they only harden when exposed to UV light (don’t worry, you’ll find handy portable lamp here http://resin-pro.co.uk/product/lampada-uv-36wt-per-resina-gel-uv/). The UV resin is transparent and can be coloured as desired. Furthermore, it hardens in just 2 minutes, but it doesn’t allow you to pour more than 2mm at a time (but you can make more layers).
Advantages:✅ Simple to Apply✅ Very fast ✅ Colourable
Disadvantages: ✖️ Max 2mm casting per time. Being slightly dense on moulds with tiny details, it could incorporate some bubbles. ✖️ Requires UV torch/lamp to harden quickly.
👉 Particularly suitable for: Small jewels or creations that require multiple layers of resin (to save time) – final coating of small Creations (as a glossy final layer)
👇 Here’s a video on how to use UV Resin 👇
Polyurethane resins
Polyurethane resins are two-component resins which, unlike epoxy resin, hardens in just ten minutes! They are not transparent however and once hardened they have a white or beige colour (depending on the product). This doesn’t mean that you can’t colour them (indeed you can add colour to change the hue), but that they are simply not transparent.
Advantages:✅ Fast ✅ Resistant ✅ If used in silicone moulds it copies every detail
Disadvantages: ✖️ Colourable, but not transparent
👉Particularly suitable for: Model making, Serial reproductions (given the speed) and Bijoux (where transparency is not required)

Thick castings: tables, lamps and large projects
Recommended Product: Low Exothermic Epoxy Resins. They are also transparent two-component resins that can be coloured as desired. The resins for large castings (used above all when it comes to wooden and resin tables) must emit little heat during the catalysis. Many resins in large castings can generate too much heat, which will cause the resin to deform – cracks, bubbles, or other defects, so it is very important to use an appropriate deep pour resin that does not overheat for large projects.
Advantages:✅ transparent ✅ does not overheat during casting ✅does not deform and remains stable over time
Disadvantages: ✖️ to be dosed with scales ✖️ it takes a few days to reach a good hardness for sanding and polishing (but it can already be pulled out of the mould after 24h)
Main Applications:Tables, Incorporations, Lamps, large ornaments.
Recommended Product: Epoxy resins with high resistance. These transparent resins (always two-component) are characterised by high hardness (which allows them to withstand foot traffic) and high resistance to humidity, always guaranteeing a glossy, even and smooth surface. Furthermore, they tend to be more “dense” (higher viscosity) so that once applied (be it an artistic painting or a floor) they can correctly self-level even on uneven surfaces.
Advantages:✅ Resistant ✅ Shiny ✅ Colourable at your liking
Disadvantages: ✖️ Max casting thickness 1 cm (but more layers can be done)
Main Applications: Resin Art and Artistic Coatings, Resin Floors, Coasters and Trays (there is also a Version for Food Contact)
For use with technical fabrics (fibglass/carbon fiber) there are two large “families”:Technical Epoxy Resins and Polyester Resins.
Technical epoxies require greater care in the dosage and in the environmental conditions during processing (low humidity at the time of application), they are more resistant and long-lasting. Particularly indicated therefore for high quality creations/repairs with carbon fibre.

Protection of cement surfaces
Recommended Product: Mono-component acrylic resin. When you have a large concrete surface (square, garage, etc) and you want to protect it and make it shiny (preventing it from “dusting”), without a doubt, the recommended product is the Single-Component Acrylic Resins. These are products that are very easy to apply (just spread them with a roller on the surface), fast, resistant and above all cheap.
Thanks to their low viscosity they deeply impregnate and stabilise the concrete. You can also repeat the treatment every 5-10 years to completely renew it
Disadvantages: ✖️ Almost none, except that it must be applied with a mask if you work indoors. Transparent (and cannot be coloured)

Protective gear
Working with epoxy resin can be messy, so it’s important to have protective gear on hand, such as a protective apron or old clothing to wear whilst working with the material. Also, do not forget about gloves to protect the skin of your hands from getting epoxy on them. We put a pair of protective gloves with resin sets from 800 gr in the orders, but for frequent work we recommend purchasing a large pack of gloves, because this is one of the most consumable accessories when working with epoxy resin.
We also have a strong degreaser to remove resin and hardener from the skin. It is dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic. Made only with solvent-free plant extracts!
What’s more? We highly recommend purchasing a protective mask/respirator for working with resin. Epoxy can be harmful to the respiratory tract, and to be safe, you need to work with it in a respirator.
In conclusion, epoxy resin is a versatile and fun material to work with, and with the right materials and accessories, you can create a variety of beautiful and unique projects. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced resin artist, these essential materials and accessories will help to ensure the success of your next project.

The unique epoxy resin Art Pro Deluxe has enhanced viscosity, which makes it perfect material for Resin Art works. High resin viscosity allows you better control of the material, concentrating on the design of your work.
This epoxy resin is excellent for Resin Art techniques such as “Geode Art”, “Space Art”, “Ocean Art”, “Northern lights Art”, and “Marble effect”, as well as any abstractions and other areas of Resin Art where thick epoxy resin is required. We particularly recommend using this resin for creating Ocean Art works, as the viscosity of this resin makes it much easier to work in this direction.
Art Pro Deluxe is an ideal resin for creating artworks on art-boards, tables and other firm surfaces, as well as creating coatings on paintings and more. However, it is notquite suitable for casting coasters and trays – for this direction we recommend another material – Medium Viscosity Resin “Art Pro”. This epoxy (Art Pro) is also a good choice for beginners as Art Pro Deluxe can be too thick and fast to work: Art Pro working time – 1h 20min, Art Pro Deluxe – 40 min.

To make it easier for you to choose materials for creating Resin Art work, we have prepared a list of our products for the most popular techniques 🙂
Accessories for working with resin
Without these accessories, working with resin can feel unnecessarily difficult. The following list is relevant for most projects:
Digital scale (resin is mixed strictly according to the specified proportions by grams), a burner/gas heat gun (to remove air bubbles from the resin surface) and other accessories (cups, sticks, etc., so that you are able to effectively mix the resin).

* – To create a Petri effect, in addition to other colours, “White-white” is needed. After each drop of coloured ink, dense white ink drips onto the resin surface in the same place.
The world of epoxy resin creations is not limited to decorations and resin art; it is also an excellent material for making coasters, trays and countertops. And it would be great if you could put your favorite mug with a hot drink on them 🙂
Is the resin resistant to hot objects?
Most classic resins can withstand the temperature of objects up to 70 ° C so in theory, a warm mug or plate can be placed on a beautiful resin coaster. However, no one is likely to measure the temperature of the dishes before serving, as we’re sure you will agree – as a result, very hot objects will leave a noticeable melted mark on the creation. The prospect is not the most pleasant, but what can be done?
The solution is heat-resistant coating
The best way to protect resin surface is to create a thin layer of heat–resistant coating over it. Moreover, this coating also protects resin against scratches and non-critical damage and has enhanced UV filter against yellowing.
If you are working with our Heat Pro product, in order to get a glossy coating without bubbles, it must be applied to a transparent layer of epoxy resin – if the coating is applied to a painted item or any other material (for example, an acrylic drawing), then there is a chance that Heat Pro will react with dyes or other additives in the product, and because of this, bubbles may appear on the coating.
Don’t be afraid to put hot dishes on a tray with a heat-resistant coating, and all minor damage and scratches simply disappear. But keep in mind, such a layer is not safe for serving food or snacks – for this purpose it is better to use “EpoxyFood” – a transparent resin with a certificate for safe contact with cold food.
